NYFW Nails to Know

Well here's a different trend that certainly piqued my interest. Just how handbags and shoes accessorize an outfit, nails and makeup accessorize you. At NYFW, all kinds of nails rocked the runways, from pom poms to bling and everything in between. I haven't been around the block THAT long, but I've been around long enough to have seen nail trends transition from long artificial square tips, to the natural French, to dark opaque short nails, to long and pointy with a whole lot of bling. I'll be honest, I've always liked the idea of artificial nails, but I hated the care and maintenance, not to mention the fact that your natural nails are pathetic-looking after the fakes have been removed. I recently jumped on the fashion bandwagon of pointy nails. I love the way they look, but let me tell you, they make typing this blog post and texting my friends impossible at times! Let me add to that list the difficulties of cooking, peeling off stickers, detangling necklaces, and removing false eye lashes. Add pom poms to my fingertips? Forget about it. As they say, beauty is pain, but there is so much I can handle.

So, it looks like NYFW has confirmed the blinged out pointy look! Are you on board? The reality is that 99% of us are not going to wear pom poms on our nails, but if you still want to incorporate some of this fun trend, here are a few ideas:

  1. Long and Natural. In other words, do what I did: get acrylics, ask for them to shape them into points, but keep the polish natural.
  2. Short and Sassy. Choose one or two nails per hand to do a cool design. Keep the rest muted.
  3. Go All Out. If you have the time, money, and patience, then why not?

At the end of the day, it is all temporary fun. Life is short.
