Athleisure with Attitude: Five Steps to Wearing Athleisure Correctly

Nicolette Brycki - Athleisure with Attitude: Five Steps to Wearing Athleisure Correctly

You can't deny it, athleisure is everywhere. Most of the time, unfortunately, it's not done well. What should have been a once-in-a-while comfy day, or comfy clothes done with a touch of class, has turned into a nationwide slop fest, so much to the point that you are embarrassed for the 1000th girl walking in the mall with the black leggings, Ugg boots, and a short hoodie.

That being said, I love athleisure! I am a sweat pants fiend, and will jump at the occasion to wear them. In fact, I remember wearing a nice pair of sweat pants to class during my study abroad in France years ago. The tsk tsk looks I got from the French made me realize that that country was a no sweat pants zone, so I tucked them back into my drawer to pull them out on future Sunday mornings after long nights of partying.

However, we in America, openly embrace and accept athleisure as an acceptable form of dressing. Let's bring it back to its roots, and class it up a little. If you love the look and feel of athleisure, and want a little outfit inspiration, try these ideas:

  1. Heels. Yes, I said heels. A pair of heels with a cute pair of athleisure pants instantly dresses it up.
  2. Blouse. Throw on a blouse with a slouchy pair of sweats for a touch of class.
  3. Faux Fur. Is it ever not a good choice? We are approaching spring, but on those chilly days or nights, your faux fur will make your look fabulous.
  4. Jewelry. Big, bold pieces are the way to go.
  5. Attitude. Embrace it. You are rocking your own style! Be free and enjoy the ride.
