Three Ways to be a Great Party Guest

Three Ways to be a Great Party Guest

One of my favorite things to do is attend fashionable parties. I love getting all dressed up to have a great time celebrating an occasion with friends. No cooking or cleaning on my part, all I have to worry is about is what I'm going to wear! Now, I'm sure you share the same sentiment, especially if you know you'll be attending a great party, so my checklist should come in handy.

Much of my inspiration for blog topics comes from my own observations in life. I've been the guest at parties, and I've also been a host numerous times. In my time, I've experienced good guests, and the not-so-good guests. Here is a quick and easy checklist to ensure you've got the good guest genes the next time you're invited to a soiree.

  1. RSVP in time, and STICK TO IT, unless there is an emergency. The worst thing you can do is not RSVP, because you're either too busy, too careless, or you don't want to commit. Plan your schedule in advance, so you'll have enough time to attend. Be mindful that your hosts took the time to have the party, and to invite you! Have enough respect to let them know if you'll be attending. One of my biggest pet peeves is people who can't commit. We live in a world full of FOBO, FOMO, and the inability to commit. Fight that tendency.
  2. Bring Something. Be it a bottle of wine, champagne, dish, or flowers for the host, do not show up empty-handed. Bringing a gift is a nice gesture and one that goes noticed and is remembered. Not sure what to bring? It's perfectly fine and even recommended to ask your host what you can bring, but not if you should bring something. By asking "if" you put your host in an uncomfortable predicament in which she or he will always answer with "nothing"!
  3. Look the Part. Now, this is where fashion comes into play! Think of the type of party and what the dress code might be. You can generally gauge this by the invitation and who your hosts are. In many cases, guys can get away with dark jeans, loafers, and a fitted button-down or T-shirt. Women, you can't go wrong with a sundress, high heels, and a cute bag. Worst case-it's better to be overdressed than underdressed for an occasion!
